The General Election is less than a week away, and more than 25 percent of Grant County’s 4,790 registered voters have already cast their ballots through the absentee voting options. As of Monday, October 26, 1,453 county residents had requested absentee ballots, and 1,276 had filed them, according to Karen Layher, Grant County auditor.
Absentee voting continues until Monday, November 2, at 5 p.m. at the local courthouse. Ballots can be returned to the dropbox near the south entrance of the courthouse or through the postal system but must be received at the auditor’s office by election day to be counted.
Those voters who plan to go to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, are reminded that all precincts will be open in their typical locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is an adequate number of election workers, and all 18 precincts in the county will be staffed and open on election day, according to Layher. Nearly 65 election workers are needed to man the county’s precincts.
Layher reminds voters that even if they requested a ballot by mail, they may still choose to vote at the polls as long as they have not returned the absentee ballot.
As was the case during the June Primary Election, the county will provide hand sanitizing stations at each polling place, and voters will be encouraged to wear facemasks. There will be signage indicating distance requirements, and the election workers will be stationed behind plexiglass shields.
