Area Schools Set Graduations this Weekend

 

MILBANK

MHS Commencement Speakers Announced

The Milbank High School graduation ceremony is slated for Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. in the Milbank High School Armory.
Class speakers are Collin Phinney and Anna Neugebauer. Justin Downes, superintendent, will preside over the commencement activities with Dan Snaza, high school principal, presenting the class.
The class includes 82 graduating students.
Music will be provided by the Milbank High School instrumental and vocal music departments under the direction of Susan Karels and Miriam Schwenn.
The class flower chosen is the carnation, and the class colors selected are maroon and gold.
The class motto is a quote from Steve Jobs,“Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
 
SUMMIT
 
12 Students to Graduate in Summit School Ceremony
 
The Summit High School graduation ceremony is slated for Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at the Summit School gymnasium. The baccalaureate will be on Wednesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church.
Bryson Zirbel is the class valedictorian, and Liza Purdy is the salutatorian.
Class members graduating with honors are Luke Chapin, Cooper Ebsen, Liza Purdy, and Bryson Zirbel. Remaining graduates are Connor Anderson, Travis Boom- gaarden, Newton Campbell, Alvan Jackson, Lincoln Kongi, Joshua Lau, Echo O’Riley, and Darwin Petersen.
The junior escorts are Derek Karst and Jason Tsai. The eighth grade ushers are Allison Benthin and Parker Zirbel.
The seniors have selected black and purple as their class colors. The flower selected is a purple-tipped white carnation.
The class motto is a Jennifer Aniston quote, “There are no regrets in life. Just lessons.”
 
WILMOT
 
Wilmot High School to Graduate 16 Sunday
 
The Wilmot High School graduation ceremony will be presented on Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. in the Wilmot High School gymnasium.
Annicka Smith is valedictorian, and Carson Jurgens is salutatorian. Jurgens and Jada Cameron have been selected as class speakers.
The commencement speaker will be Natalie (Jensen) Remund, a 1997 Wilmot graduate and 2001 South Dakota State University graduate. She returned to Wilmot in 2002 and currently serves on the Wilmot School Board where she has coached seventh through twelfth grades sports and competitive cheer in Wilmot. Remund is currently employed by Multi Business Solutions in Fergus Falls, MN, and also serves as the chief people officer and the human resource consultant for several businesses.
The class motto comes from Smokey’s quote in Pixar’s Cars, “You can’t turn back the clock, kid. But you can wind it up again.”
The class flower is a blue daisy and the class colors are Bahama blue, lemon yellow, and Pink Fraud.
The school band will be playing the processional, national anthem, and the recessional music.
The honor students in the class are Bethanie Anderson, Jada Cameron, Kevin Gibson, Carson Jurgens, Emilie Metz, Brooklyn Remund, Matthew Rennie, Ethan Schwenn, and Annicka Smith. Rounding out the class are Daniel Barbosa, Emma Pittsenbargar, Kaden Hogan, Maddux Foss, Noah Sorenson, Reese Rudebusch, and Tanner Hooth.
 
WAVERLY-SOUTH SHORE
 
Lt. Governor to Speak at Waverly-South Shore Event
 
The Waverly-South Shore High School’s graduation ceremony is slated for Saturday, May 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the school. The keynote speaker will be Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen.
Class members Kristian Waldner is the valedictorian and Elizabeth Meyer is the salutatorian.
Those graduating are Gage Beisch, Gypsy Carlson, Kaydence DeHaan, Evan Goff, Madison Hanson, Tyler Hovitek, Kyle Kneeland, Dashaya Koch, Jolene Krantz, Elizabeth Meyer, Emma Ploof, Jordan Starr, Destiny Strohfus, Trenton Struckman, William Struckman, Garrett Taecker, Wyatt Taecker, Monty Thompson, Kristian Waldner, Spencer Whittle, and Dru Wientjes.
The seniors have selected dark purple and silver as their class colors. The flowers selected are purple anemone with baby’s breath.
The senior class motto is a Dr. Seuss quote, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
