Bloodmobile Drive Slated

The Grant County American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Milbank on Monday, November 25, from noon to 6 p.m. at Unity Square. “This town is full of heroes, life savers, and your help is always appreciated,” said Margaret Skoog, coordinator.
All blood types are needed including first timers or seasoned donors.  “Donors don’t need to know their type, they just need to want to help save lives,” said Skoog. Each completed unit has the potential to save three lives.
Donors need to be 17 and older, healthy, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Most medicines are allowed. Many medical problems allow people to donate. Many cancer survivors can donate.
Anyone with questions or concerns can call the American Red Cross at 1- 800-RED CROSS or Skoog at 880-0435.
Appointments may be made on-line, www.redcrossblood.org. Enter “Milbank Community” and choose a time.
People who are not computer savvy can call Skoog to have an appointment made. Walk-ins will be welcome but may have to wait. Appointments will take preference.
Skoog reminds all donors to complete RapidPass the day of the blood drive. Find it at www.redcrossblood.org. Answer the questions via phone or computer, follow the instructions and present at the blood drive. RapidPass saves everybody time.
Host for this blood drive is the faith based community of Calvary Assembly in Milbank, chaired by Darcie O’Farrell.
According to Skoog, cancer patients, large and small, always need blood. Premature babies can need just a few teaspoons to get their little bodies back on course, or new moms can hemorrhage after a birth.
Surgical patients may need blood to replace blood lost in a surgery. Accident victims often need more than a few units of the red stuff that carries oxygen to cells throughout the body. Some people need red cells so they can recover to get on with their lives. Every person who receives blood receives the gift of life, a chance for another day, for another birthday, another celebration.
