Care Calls System
Initiated Locally

In the information given at the Milbank City Council meeting on Monday, April 19, Mayor Pat Raffety informed the public that Marylynne Fields is trying to start a care call system in the community.
Under the voluntary system, residents can sign up to receive a daily telephone call from an assigned partner. The system allows anyone to have a partner to check on their safety and well-being.
“I am encouraging either a daily phone call or a daily text for anyone, at any age, living alone. Accidents or health issues can happen at any age. The positive mental health aspect that someone cares enough to check on someone every day is immeasurable,” Fields said in a written statement to the council.
It was stressed that the system is in the early stages of development, and those interested in either being a caller or in receiving calls should contact Fields at 605-432-5777 or 605-880-7766. She can also be reached by mail at 913 S. Viola St., Milbank, SD 57252.
