The South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (SDSRPC) is seeking soybean farmers interested in filling one of South Dakota’s four seats on the United Soybean Board (USB), for a three-year term.
USB is composed of 77 farmer-leaders who oversee the investments of the Soybean Checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. The mission of the Soybean Checkoff is to create value for U.S. soy farmers by investing in research, education, and promotion of United States soy. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the Soybean Checkoff.
A candidate is eligible if they are:
• A South Dakota resident
• At least 21 years of age
• Actively engaged in soybean production
To be considered for the national leadership position, interested soybean farmers should submit a USDA Background Information Form to the SDSRPC office by Friday, May 15, at 5 p.m
To obtain this form, contact Becky Cypher at the South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council office at (605)330-9942.
The SDSRPC will submit to the United States Department of Agriculture a “first preferred choice nominee” and “second preferred choice alternate” for the open position. The United States Secretary of Agriculture will make the final appointment. USB and USDA do not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, marital status, or political beliefs. The chosen individual will begin serving a three-year term in December 2026. Each individual appointed is eligible to serve a total of three consecutive terms.
