Members of the Employees Helping Hands (EHH) group at Valley Queen Cheese Factory have embarked on a festive new way to raise money for the It Only Takes a Spark Cancer Walk.
With a minimum donation of $5, members of the public can select an acrylic Christmas tree ornament and decorate it. If they wish, the ornaments can be dedicated in honor of or in memory of loved ones.
The ornaments will be available at the Valley Queen Heritage Center, 106 S. Main Street, beginning during the sip and shop event, Thursday, November 14, from 3 to 8 p.m. They will be available through November 23. Organizers report that 100 percent of the donations will go to the cancer walk.
The ornaments will be displayed on the community Christmas tree that will be set up in the music park near the intersection of Main Street and Second Avenue. In addition to raising money for the cancer walk, the members of EHH also wanted to magnify the Christmas cheer, so they have planned a lighting event for the community Christmas tree.
The public is invited to attend the lighting ceremony on Sunday, November 24, at approximately 6 p.m. After the lighting, members of the group will serve up hot chocolate and bars for people to enjoy while Christmas music plays. There will be a movie to entertain the children, and they will be able to participate in holiday cookie decorating. All of the activities during the tree lighting event will be free.
