Free Bike Safety Event Slated for Youth

The bi-annual Grant County 4-H Bike Rodeo and Safety Day will be conducted on Friday, May 20, from 9;30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Grant County 4-H grounds. The event is free for youth kindergarten through fifth grade. Registration is required by Monday, May 9, to the 4-H office. The bike rodeo and safety day is organized by Grant County 4-H member, William Karels.
“Milbank has a large number of bikers in the summer months, and it is important that all these youth have helmets and know how to safely ride around town,” says Karels. “We are also continuing our helmet incentive program, so any youth wearing a bike helmet around town will be given an ice cream coupon!”
Participants will take part in a series of educational sessions including a bike helmet fitting, bike check, bike handling, first aid and a bike ride with the cooperative efforts of Milbank City police, Grant County Sheriff’s office, Grant-Roberts Ambulance Service, Milbank Area Hospital/Avera and South Dakota Highway Patrol. In addition, there will be a lunch served, prizes given away, and two individuals will win a bike donated by United Hardware.
There are numerous sponsors that make this bike rodeo event successful, including First Bank and Trust, Great Western Bank, Thrivent Financial and Catholic United Financial Parish Volunteer Team St. Anthony/St. Monica of Rosen, MN.
