Genealogy Workshop in Milbank

The Grant County Public Library in Milbank invites the public to attend Those Old Stone Memories, a genealogy workshop, Thursday, October 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. Those Old Stone Memories will be presented by Virginia Hanson from the South Dakota Archives. There is no cost to attend.
The program will teach attendees how to dig deeper and find uncommon records connected to an ancestor’s death and the life they created. Attendees will learn about research using coroner’s records, wills, probate records, memorial cards and clues in photos, death notices and obituaries.
“This isn’t just a walk in the graveyard. Virginia Hanson will not only show how to find sources for information, but also how to gain the most possible information from those sources,” said a library representative. “Beyond the obvious information found on a gravestone, more insight can be gained by understanding the artwork on the stones.”
This genealogy workshop is a perfect opportunity for those who have been gathering family information for years, or for those just beginning their search. Community members interested in preserving local family history are also encouraged to attend. Community service projects archiving local cemeteries will also be discussed.
Sign up by calling the Grant County Public Library at 432-6543.
