Grant County Public Library to Host Teen Summer Reading Program

The Grant County Public Library in Milbank is planning a Summer Reading Program for teens. Sign-ups are underway with Oceans of Possibilities in the Tiki Teen Zone of the Grant County Public Library.
On Wednesday, June 1, at 1 p.m. the students are welcome to attend the Summer Reading Program kickoff event, a bubble performer. Students will receive one point for participation in each event.
Each week of the program, a different challenge is available in the library. The challenges vary each week and provide an activity encouraging a thought process or inspiring creativeness. Participants are awarded a prize and one point for each challenge completed.
The following  events are set for each Wednesday at 3 p.m. –  June 8, Oceans of Pirate Possibilities; June 15, Beach Painting; June 22, Oceans of FUN Splash Bash; Jun 29, Tiki Tenzi, and July 6, Seashell Creations.
Students accumulating five points during the program are given an after hours finale party which includes pizza and Nerf gun games on Wednesday, July 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. Reading awards and rewards will be given at the finale.
The teen program, for students having completed grades five through nine, offers flexibility for the busy lives of teens. Students completing fifth grade this spring are allowed to choose either the teen program or to be in the younger division.
Teens are offered three ways to participate. They can choose to read, to complete a challenge or to attend the weekly activities.
As teens read, they are asked to tally the number of hours they read during each of the six weeks of the program. They will be awarded two points for each logged hour of reading. Top readers are awarded trophies at the end of the program.
Students choose what reading, challenge or event best fits their busy schedules and preferences.   The more participation, the more points are awarded. The more points awarded, the more opportunities for prizes.
