Wilmot School District is offering a free internet safety night on Tuesday, March 17. The event will provide valuable information on how adults can be proactive to protect children and keep them from harm when they are online.
The class will be presented by Mary Beth Holzwarth, human trafficking coordinator and analyst for the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Holzwarth will provide strategies for talking to kids about staying safe while engaging in digital spaces.
In today’s increasingly complex online environment, she will provide tips on how to recognize predators and report exploitation.
Holzwarth draws her expertise from personal experiences in 2009. She founded Endeavor 52, and organization to educate adults, children, and professionals on how to keep children safe. She was included in the team who drafted Jolene’s Law, which led to the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment. Holzwarth is also the reentry coach at the South Dakota Women’s Prison, supporting women through the Moving On program, that provides steps to heal personal trauma and ways to develop new strategies prior being released.
During the class, Holzwarth will focus on practical ways to communicate with your children and increase awareness of types of challenges kids face today.
The event in Wilmot will provide childcare and begins at 6:30 p.m.
