Key Speakers Announced Milbank Ag Day Activities
The annual Agriculture Appreciation Day event is on Wednesday, March 18, at the Grant County 4-H Complex. The activities are coordinated by the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC).
The day will start off with a free-will donation pancake feed beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Milbank chapter FFA students will serve the pancakes aside sausage, eggs, fruit, juice, and coffee.
There will also be a raffle at the event.
Dozens of local agricultural businesses and organizations will be setting up vendor booths to display merchandise and promote their services.
This year, the new South Dakota State University (SDSU) precision agriculture trailer will be on site. It will offer hands-on demonstrations that include sensors, drones, and a rainfall simulator.
Ali Mirzakhani Nafchi, assistant professor and SDSU extension precision agriculture specialist, will speak about precision crop agriculture.
Afterward, Laura Edwards, SDSU extension state climatologist, will present her speech about climate and weather trends in the region.
The proceeds from this event will help support the MACC agricultural scholarships. Every year two scholarships are awarded to Milbank High School seniors who are pursuing fields of study in agriculture.
“Agriculture is the heart of our community,” said Jamie Henderson, executive director of MACC. “Ag Appreciation Day is our way of bringing the community together to recognize the farmers, producers, and ag businesses whose dedication keeps our local economy strong and helps feed communities across the country.”
Milbank FFA students will also host a Drive Your Tractor to School day as part of the event.
