Local Business Owners Mark Independent Retailers Month

Special Offers are Part of
Independent Retailers Month

July is National Independent Retailer Month, and many of the locally-owned businesses are offering specials to celebrate. Shopping at the independent stores helps the local economy and keeps the community healthy.
During National Independent Retailer Month, people are encouraged to support and shop at the independent retail shops to embrace all that the independent retailers provide to the local communities.
Turn to the back page of this week’s Review for great money-saving deals offered by some of Milbank’s independent retailers.
Featured this week are Homestead Animal Health, Bent Arrow Archery Range and Pro Shop, Valley Liquor, Valley Office Products, Hartman’s Family Foods, Whetstone Home Center, AlyKat Designs, UPI Petroleum, Whimsy on Main, Bien Pharmacy, Habanero’s Hispano Restaurant and Bar and Ol’ Mill Meats.
Many of last week’s featured businesses are continuing their specials or coupons printed on the July 8 issue of The Review. Independent retailers featured last week are Dewey’s Lawn Care and Landscaping, Advanced Technologies, Milbank Collision, Backdoor BBQ, Milbank EyeCare, Crazy Ink Tattoos, Berens Groceries, Flower Shoppe, All Points Travel and Cocktails and Corks.
“When you shop locally-owned businesses, the money will stay in the community three times longer. Local businesses and artists tend to buy from local suppliers and hire local service providers such as printers, accountants and lawyers. This means more jobs in the community,” according to the indieretailermonth.com website.
Other research shows that a dollar spent at a locally-owned store is usually spent six to 15 times before it leaves the community. “From $1, you create $5 to $14 in value within that community ... When you spend $1 at a national chain store, 80 percent of the money leaves town immediately,” according to the Northwest Earth Institute.
“When you shop with your local independent retailers, you are doing your bit to keep your community ‘open for business,’” according to the website.
Be sure to look for the specials on the back page of today’s issue.
