Market Facilitation Program Signup Ends December 6

Signup is ongoing for the Market Facilitation Program (MFP), a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program to assist farmers who continue to suffer from damages because of unjustified trade retaliation from foreign nations. Through MFP, USDA will provide up to $14.5 billion in direct payments to impacted producers, part of a broader trade relief package announced in late July.
MFP payments will be made to producers of certain non-specialty and specialty crops as well as dairy and hog producers. The sign-up period runs through December 6, 2019.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue recently announced the second tranche of 2019 Market Facilitation Program (MFP) payments aimed at assisting farmers suffering from damage due to unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations. The payments began to be issued the week before Thanksgiving. Producers of MFP-eligible commodities will now be eligible to receive 25 percent of the total payment expected, in addition to the 50 percent they have already received from the 2019 MFP.
The third tranche will be evaluated as market conditions and trade opportunities dictate. If conditions warrant, the third tranche will be made in January 2020.
More information can be found on farmers.gov/mfp, including payment information and a program application. Contact the Grant County FSA office at 432-6570, ext. two to make an appointment.
