Milbank Avera Named to Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals

Milbank Area Hospital Avera was recently ranked as a top-performing critical access hospital in the United States, according to iVantage Health Analytics Hospital Strength Index.
“We are very pleased to be named to the 2020 top 100 list,” said Natalie Gauer, hospital administrator. “This year, Milbank Area Hospital Avera is celebrating 100 years of service. Earning this distinction acknowledges our team’s efforts and demonstrates their daily commitment to lead with professionalism, treat each patient with compassion and deliver the best possible care to our community.”
“The hospital staff is committed to ongoing efforts to provide quality care and enhance the vitality of the community. We expect to continue these efforts for years to come,” Gauer said.
Based on publicly available data, the INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Utilizing 50 independent indicators, the INDEX assesses performance across eight pillars of strength: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, cost, charge, quality, outcomes, patient perspective and financial stability to determine an overall score for each hospital. Hospitals recognized as a top 100 facility had one of the 100 highest overall scores among all 1,267 critical access hospitals nationally.
According to the report, the hospitals that are named to the list are top performers in achieving higher quality, securing better outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction, managing risk, and operating at a lower cost than their peers. The annual award to honor rural hospital performance is marking its 10th anniversary, and this is the sixth year the local hospital has made the top 100 list.
