NOTICE AND CALL FOR BIDS

The City of Big Stone City, South Dakota, will be accepting sealed bids for street overlay material, as follows:

SCHEDULE #1: 7,200 square yards, more or less as determined by the City, granite chip seal to be applied to city streets and avenues at an estimated rate of .28 gal/square yard CRS-2 oil and 30 pounds/square yard SD2A (3/8” washed, crushed granite).  Ambient temperature of 70 degrees required before application.

SCHEDULE # 2: 7,000 square yards, more or less, of 2” asphalt, machined laid of designated streets and avenues, at the direction of the Utilities Manager.  All edges to be raked and feathered.  Ambient temperature of 50 degrees required before asphalt application.

Manholes and curb boxes are to be protected from coverage and are to be raised where needed.  The City will furnish riser rings for manholes and curb boxes.

Work is to be completed between May 15th and October 15th and shall be coordinated with the City Utility Manager with at least one week’s notice given.

A certified check, cashier’s check or bank draft in the amount of five percent (5%) of the total bid must accompany all bids. Said security to be made payable to the City of Big Stone City and to be drawn on a State or National Bank domiciled within the State of South Dakota. Said security will be retained by the City of Big Stone City in the event the successful bidder fails or refuses to enter into a contract when notified of the award.  In lieu of a bid check the bidder may submit a surety bond for ten percent (10%) of the amount bid. 

All Bids should include excise tax.  Bids will be received until 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, at the City Finance Office, 400 Washington Street, Big Stone City, South Dakota, at which time and place the bids will be opened and read aloud during the City Council meeting.

The City of Big Stone City reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive irregularities and make award as deemed to be in the best interest of Big Stone City, South Dakota.
