filing deadline

East Dakota Water

Development District

The following office will become vacant on December 31, 2022, due to the expiration of the present term of office of the elective director.

Director 1 (4-year term) representing the cities of Big Stone, Milbank, Marvin and Twin Brooks in Grant County; Alban, Big Stone, Blooming Valley, Farmington, Grant Center, Kilborn, Lura, Mazeppa, Melrose, Osceola and Twin Brooks townships in Grant County; and all of Codington County.

Nominating petitions may be obtained from:

1. East Dakota Water Development District, 132B Airport Avenue, Brookings, SD 57006, (605) 688-6741; and

2. Grant County Auditor, 210 East Fifth Avenue, Milbank, SD 57252, (605) 432-6711.

The petitions must be filed with the East Dakota Water Development District, 132B Airport Avenue, Brookings, SD 57006, no later than 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2023. The vacancy will be filled by appointment by the District Board of Directors at their meeting on January 11, 2023. The appointed director will serve the balance of the Director 1 term, which will expire on December 31, 2026.

If no qualified nominating petitions have been received by the filing deadline, the Board will continue to accept nominating petitions until one or more is received. The Board will then fill the vacancy by appointment at a subsequent meeting, provided that the petitions are received at least three working days prior to the meeting.
