Public Asked to Report Storm Damage
Public Asked
to Report
Storm Damage
In an effort to determine the extent of damage from the May 12 storm, state and county officials ask the public to report their property damage by calling the 211 Helpline. According to Kevin Schuelke, Grant County emergency management director, the statistics will be used to identify the need for financial assistance in each county. If FEMA funds become available, they will be dispersed based on the reported damage.
Schuelke encourages individuals, whether rural or town residents, to call 211 to report. Citizens can break down sites by describing buildings in the following four categories: Destroyed, Major Damage, Minor Damage, or Affected, and whether the building/property was insured.
The information gathered will be used for the Initial Impact and Damage Assessment report and
submitted to the State Office of Emergency Management.
