Public Can Observe Program
on Veterans Day from Vehicles
Area veterans will be honored in an outdoor program on Wednesday, November 11, at 11 a.m., in observance of Veterans Day. Health and safety concerns that resulted from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic pushed organizers to plan the program at the outdoor Grant County Veterans Memorial near the Milbank City Cemetery.
Those who wish to watch the program are asked to do so from their vehicles. They are to park in the lot near the tennis courts or on the street that leads into the cemetery.
The program will include a Posting of the Colors by service organizations. Preston Fischer, VFW commander, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayer. Fischer will also perform the reading, which is a history and meaning of Veterans Day.
The VFW Post 3486 Rifle Squad will perform the salute to fallen comrades before the playing of Taps. The program will close with the Retiring of the Colors.
Members representing VFW Post 3486 and Firing Squad, American Legion Birch-Miller Post 9, Gertje-VanLith Post 229, Stockholm-Strandburg American Legion Post 171, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1054 will be present.
