GRANT COUNTY PUBLIC NOTICE
SUMMARY OF THE GRANT COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN
The Grant County Planning Commission and Grant County Board of County Commissioners held a joint public hearing at the Grant County Courthouse on April 11, 2022. At the hearing, the Grant County Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners received public input and approved the Comprehensive Land Use Plan for Grant County. The following is a summary of the planning process and the Comprehensive Land Use Plan:
SUMMARY OF PROCESS.
The Grant County Planning Commission held meetings over a 15-month period in order to gather information for the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Utilizing aerial photography and Grant County Department of Equalization records, a land use survey was undertaken to identify existing land uses and to assist with the development of the future land use map.
SUMMARY OF PLAN.
The primary objective of this study was to identify where and how development in the unincorporated areas of Grant County should occur. The development of planning policies and a future land use map(s) was undertaken in order to establish the basis on which future land development would take place.
Information regarding land use planning history within Grant County, population and housing, existing land use, transportation, and the physical environment (streams, lakes, rivers, flood plain, and aquifer) were reviewed, and recommendations regarding future development in areas affected by the above were included in the plan.
The future land use plan identifies areas where future growth and accompanying type of land usage should be encouraged. The future land use map noted four individual land use development categories. These included Urban Development Areas, Rural Development Areas, Areas of Development Transition, and Areas of Development Limitation.
The Comprehensive Land Use Plan for Grant County is available for public inspection during normal business hours at the Grant County Courthouse 210 East 5th Avenue, Milbank, SD  or online at https://association.1stdistrict.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/ 04/Grant-County-Comprehensive-Plan-Final-Draft-041122.pdf. This Comprehensive Land Use Plan becomes effective 20 days after this publication.
