St. Lawrence School Christmas Program Set

St. Lawrence School students will perform their annual Christmas program on Wednesday, December 14, at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the parish center in Milbank. The public is invited to attend.

This year’s musical is Room for Christmas by Mark Burrows, presented by third through sixth graders and directed by Elizabeth Schulte. The story line begins at a rehearsal for the annual Christmas pageant. The director is sick and it’s up to the children to do the best they can, but it won’t be easy.

No one has learned their lines. The pageant feels like “just one more thing” during a busy time of year. The cast all have their own opinions about how to make this old story feel new and exciting. The innkeeper is especially upset that there was no room in his inn for Jesus. The audience will relate to the children’s question: How do we make room for Jesus during the hectic holiday season?

Sixth graders with lead roles are Bailee Hendricks as the angel-in-charge; Jemma Frerichs, a wise-cracking shepherd; Harper Wendland, a know-it-all wise man; Gabby Sperry as Mary; Tristan Hooth as Joseph, and Bella Hicks as the narrator.

Rounding out the cast are Evan Kelly, the innkeeper, and Keira Untalan and Aubree Madsen, wisemen, fifth graders, and Stassi Henrich, Camille Lagerstrom-Hernandez and Baron Schmidt, sheep, third graders.

Volunteer students will provide an instrumental prelude before the program begins. Featured on recorder will be the fourth graders playing Good King Wenceslas. Fifth and sixth grade students will play O Little Town of Bethlehem on tone chimes.

Students in preschool and kindergarten will sing Name Him Jesus, O Come Little Children and Behold That Star. First and second graders will sing Christmas Alphabet, Bethlehem Night and Here We Come A-Caroling. Several soloists will be featured.

Lyrics from the finale, Joy to the World, tie together the theme of the program: “Let every heart prepare Him room,” as St. Lawrence students help the community remember what really matters at Christmas.
