Families and staff of St. Lawrence School are gearing up for the annual National Catholic Schools Week activities. The local week-long celebration will begin Saturday, January 25, and continue through Friday, January 31.
The local theme is Sons Rock Kids Camp, and the kickoff activities will be Saturday with a 5 p.m. Mass. During the Mass, students in kindergarten through the sixth grade will sit with their teachers. A meal, featuring barbecues, hot dogs, chips and a bar, will be served at 6 p.m.. Ten games of bingo will be played beginning at 7 p.m. with cash prizes.
The celebration continues Monday, January 27, and the day’s theme will be Accepted by Jesus. Students will focus on career day and will explore what they want to be when they grow up.
Tuesday, January 28, the theme will be Protected by Jesus. The students will enjoy time-travel day. They are encouraged to dress up as a character from the past or what they think people will dress like in the future. Students will serve the community lunch with their annual soup day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All grandparents and elderly are invited to enjoy a bowl of soup at the fellowship hall.
Wednesday, January 29, will be Saved by Jesus. The students will get wacky for Wacky Wednesday. They can dress like teachers, wear their clothes inside out, do their hair in a wacky way ... pretty much anything goes.
Forgiven by Jesus will be the focus of the students’ learning Thursday, January 30. Thursday will also be camp day and the students will dress in their camp attire, so they are ready to have fun during the Center Day Adventures.
The Catholic Schools Week activities will conclude Friday, January 31, with a theme of Living for Jesus. Students will wear their Catholic Schools Week T-shirts to show their spirit. Mass will be at 8:30 a.m. A public open house will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The day concludes with a movie and snacks in the gym beginning at 12:30 p.m. Catholic Schools Week songs and actions will be at 2:20 p.m.
