St. Lawrence Students to Sing
for Residents in Outdoor Show

Students at St. Lawrence have been enjoying two weeks of Summer Camp and are very excited to share their vocal music with residents at St. William’s Care Center this week.  Students in kindergarten through second grade will be singing on Wednesday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. and students in fourth and sixth grades will be singing on Thursday, June 11, at 1:15.
The program will take place outdoors and precautions will be taken to maintain social distancing.
Coordinating the event are Elizabeth Schulte, music teacher at St. Lawrence and Laurie Hoffman, activities director at St. Williams.  “We may not be able to hear each other as well outside, but the music will still bring joy to these residents who have not been able to welcome visitors for so many months,” Schulte said.
The theme from Catholic Schools Week in January was SonRock Kids Camp and now the students will be singing those songs again at a special presentation for the residents of the care center.
Under normal circumstances, every class tries to sing for St. William’s residents once each year, but they fell short of that goal because of this year’s flu season and COVID-19 school closure.
“During such a fearful time in our country, we hope to share a message of peace and trust in God with songs like I’m Keeping My Eyes on Jesus,  Trust in God for Today, and In Christ Alone. There will also be a few campfire singalong songs like He’s Got the Whole World, I Love the Mountains, and You Are My Sunshine,” Schulte said.  “We’ve also been singing a few baseball songs in hopes that it will start back up this summer. On our afternoon program, is the classic Take Me Out to the Ballgame, along with our COVID-19 version: Take Me Out of My House, Please.”
