October 9, 2023
The Town Board met in regular session on October 9, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the town fire hall. President Travis Benthin present, members Kathleen Quale and Dale Bauer present. Others present were: Norma Arend-finance officer, Calvin Pies, Arlo Anderson, Sandra Lowery, Jim Thurman, Josh Neuhard, David Cardwell, Nicki Mikkelson, Pete Eccles, Karl Steege, Tim Gapp, Jennica Pottebaum, Larry Hayworth, Frank Redlin, Savannah Moe, Viva DuBois and Ronald Neilan. Benthin called the meeting to order at after 6:00 p.m. when Dale arrived. Public communications: Still checking to see if all chickens have been removed from city limits.
Motion by Kathy, second by Benthin to approve the minutes, financial reports and claims as presented except for the claim from Dakota Hills Excavating for the North Addition. Motion carried. Dakota Hills Excavating & A.P. & Sons can not do any more work on the North Addition per SD Department of Legislative Audit. The project must be bid.
Old Business: Two proposals were given for the bar. Viva DuBois & Ronald Neilan to lease. Karl Steege for lease with an option to purchase the building to do renovations. Motion by Benthin, second by Quale to table until the November meeting. Gordon will also be contacted.
Delinquent water bills were discussed.
New business: Jennica gave the daycare report.
Maintenance report given by Jim. Currently getting equipment ready for winter.
Motion by Benthin, second by Quale to go into executive session regarding personnel. Motion carried.
Motion by Benthin, second by Quale to terminate David VanElsacker effective October 9. Motion by Benthin, second by Quale to hire Jon Boomgaarden as maintenance worker who will be working towards certified operator. Motion carried.
Motion by Quale, second by Bauer to adjourn meeting. Motion carried. The next regular town board meeting will be Monday November 6 at 6:00pm at the town fire hall.
