Veterans Rally Slated in Honor of D-Day

Veterans Rally Slated
in Honor of D-Day

Veterans from across the state will gather on Friday, June 6, the anniversary of D-Day. The members of 50501 South Dakota in Rapid City and Sioux Falls will host a veterans rally to honor South Dakota’s legacy of military service and to defend the veterans and federal employees that continue to serve communities. This mass mobilization is expected to be the largest coordinated nationwide veterans protest in the history of our country. The rally will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the public sidewalks outside city hall at 300 6th St., along Omaha Street in Rapid City and on 12th and Kiwanis at the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial in Sioux Falls.

The event is part of a nationwide call to action led by 50501 Veterans, a non-partisan coalition of veterans committed to strategizing, mobilizing and taking action on critical issues affecting communities and the nation. The organization is united by a shared oath to the Constitution.

50501 is not an organization, but a fully volunteer, decentralized grassroots movement with no budget, no centralized leadership, and no institutional backing.
Each state chapter leads its own actions and advocacy according to the needs and voices of its people.

“Federal employees at the VA, including nurses, doctors, recreation therapists, maintenance workers, administrators and so many more, are vital to quality veteran care in South Dakota,” said one 50501 South Dakota organizer. “We’re rallying to defend their jobs and the promise our nation made to those who served.”

“Veterans don’t stop serving when we take off the uniform,” said a local member of both 50501 Veterans and 50501 South Dakota. “We’re showing up on D-Day not just to honor the past, but to fight for the future of Veterans and the principles we swore to defend. This is about protecting the systems that protect us.”

Veterans, military families, federal workers and every South Dakotan who cares about protecting public service and upholding constitutional values are welcome.
