June 10, 2020
Members present: Lisa Amdahl, Carrie Rauen, Joe Johnston, Ferdy Zirbel and Mark Miller via phone. Also present: Mike Schmidt, Nicole Hoffman, Arthur Berger Jr., Devlin Benike and Kaitlyn Christofferson.
At 5:01 p.m. Chairman Zirbel called the meeting to order. Christofferson shared a conflict of interest with the claims on behalf of Steven Christofferson. Board acknowledged the conflict of interest.
20136 motion by Johnston second by Rauen to approve the amended agenda with the addition to add an Executive Session for the purpose of an employee matter. All voted aye. Motion carried.
20137 motion by Amdahl Second by Rauen to enter into Executive Session at 5:01 p.m. for the purpose of negotiations (SDCL 1-25-2(4)). Chairman Zirbel declared them out of executive session at 6:47 p.m.
20138 motion by Amdahl Second by Johnston to enter into Executive Session at 6:48 p.m. for the purpose of discussing personnel (SDCL 1-25-2(1)). Chairman Zirbel declared them out of executive session at 7:14 p.m.

20140 Motion by Amdahl Second by Rauen to approve the May 13th, 2020 board meeting minutes. All voted aye. Motion carried.  
20141 Motion by Rauen Second by Miller to approve the financial statements. All voted aye. Motion carried.  
20142 Motion by Johnston Second by Rauen to approve the monthly claims for the month of June 2020. All voted aye.

Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Schmidt discussed a plan for collecting remaining outstanding items from students. Discussed cautionary steps being taken with gym reopening. Presented board with strategic plan for Summit School. Discussed coop meeting. Updated board on enrollment numbers increasing, discussed bus route planning. Discussed plan of creating a COVID Task for school reopening.
Business Officer’s Report: Preliminary budget for fiscal year 2020-2021 discussed. School Board member terms discussed. Summer Food Service application due June 15th. Child Care Services Grant Application submitted to help compensate OST staff for shortened summer hours due to virtual program.
20143 Motion by Johnston Second by Amdahl to canvas June 2nd School Board Election.
Results of election: Carrie Rauen: 49, TamiJo Bronson: 32, Jennifer Zirbel:30
Rauen’s 1 year term and Johnston’s 3 year term will end July 2020.
Rauen and Bronson will begin their 3 year terms July 2020.
1. 385 register voters of the school district on May 18th, the date voter registration closed.
2. 64 register voters who voted in the election.
3. 17% of registered voters of the school district who voted in the election.
4. Election was held June 2nd, 2020 in conjunction with Roberts County.
All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20144 Motion by Rauen Second by Miller to approve the School Year 2020-2021 employee contracts. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20145 Motion by Amdahl Second by Rauen to approve the contract between SD Department of Health and the Summit School. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20146 Motion by Rauen Second by Miller to approve McKinney Vento Homeless Transportation Policy. All voted aye. Motion carried.
20147 Motion by Miller Second by Amdahl to approve SILDL contract. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20148 Motion by Amdahl Second by Johnston to approve Driver’s Ed fee. All voted aye. Motion carried. 
20149 Motion by Johnston Second by Rauen to adjourn the June meeting at 8:29 p.m. All voted aye. Motion carried.
The next special board meeting will be on Wednesday, June 24, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
