Boyd VanVooren, police chief, reminds parents who will be dropping off or picking up children at the new Milbank Elementary School, that when they complete the loop, there is no right-turn allowed onto Ninth Street.
“When they reach the end of the loop, drivers must continue west on Fifth Avenue or turn left (south) onto Ninth Street,” VanVooren advised. The members of the city council changed the ordinance in response to findings by a committee that studied traffic flow near the new school. “We are concerned about drivers getting onto US Highway 12 from Ninth Street, and feel that this change will help prevent traffic from getting backed up at the intersections,” he explained.
Those drivers who continue west on Fifth Avenue can then use Viola Street or Seventh Street to travel to Highway 12, according to VanVooren.
