City of Big Stone City Council Proceedings

January 3, 2024
5:30 p.m.
The Big Stone City council met in regular session on Wednesday, January, 3, 2024,  meeting began at 5:30 p.m. with President Bruce Redfield presiding. Roll Call: Redfield, Stoddard, Hughes, TJ Rabe, Roscoe. Absent: Mayor Brown and council member G Rabe. Others present: Attorney Stock, Nancy Lee, Redgey Rademacher, Jessica Amberg, Amanda Lee, Kathy Rabe, Sue Christianson.
The Pledge of Allegiance and the South Dakota State Pledge were recited.
President Redfield read a letter of resignation received from council member G. Rabe.
Motion to accept the minutes from the December 28, 2023 meeting was made by Stoddard seconded by Hughes. All in favor. Motion carried.
Motion to pay the presented claims was made by TJ Rabe and seconded by Hughes. Upon roll call Ayes: Roscoe, Redfield, Stoddard, Hughes, TJ Rabe. Nayes: None.  Motion carried.

Sheriff Report for January was as follows: 81.3 Hours worked. Activity report: burglar alarm, suspicious vehicle, welfare check, theft investigation. The sheriff’s office is still down one deputy. 
Public Comments: None.
Roscoe made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 2023-01 TJ Rabe seconded. All in favor. Motion carried.
A motion to approve the Big Stone City Fire Department’s Temporary Alcoholic Beverage License for February 16, 17, 18, 2024 was made by Hughes and  Roscoe seconded. All in favor. Motion carried.
A motion to approve the Big Stone City Fire Department Temporary Alcoholic Beverage License for July, 16, 17, & 18, 2024 was made by Redfield and seconded by TJ Rabe. All in Favor. Motion carried.
President Redfield discussed the Big Stone City School; The City of Big Stone City was given the right of first refusal. Attorney Stock was also forwarded a copy of the Email and thinks the language was correct, no further action needs to be taken at this time in regards to signing anything. Attorney Stock plans to speak with Chris Folk to verify and get it in writing. This matter was tabled until the next month’s council meeting.   
Hughes made a motion to approve Bryan Austin to attend the JUTS conference in Sioux Falls, SD January 16, 2024 TJ Rabe seconded. Ayes: Roscoe, Stoddard, TJ Rabe, Hughes, Redfield. Nayes: None. All in favor. Motion carried.
Jessica Amberg manager of the Big Stone Liquor Store asked for Permission to purchase new bar stools for the Liquor Store as well as a different POS system. Council requested more information and other price quotes prior to agreement. This matter was tabled until next month’s council meeting.
A motion was made by Stoddard to designate Grant County Review be the official Newspaper of Big Stone City and Roscoe seconded. All in Favor. Motion carried.
Stoddard made a motion at 5:50 p.m. to adjourn the meeting and TJ Rabe seconded. All in favor. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
