Winter Wonderland Planned for Hometown Christmas
Even though a few weeks remain before the official start of the holiday season, representatives of Grant County 4-H and the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce have been making plans for a cozy downhome Christmas celebration in Milbank.
“We are already gearing up for a magical holiday season, and we want the public to be part of it,” commented Melissa Mueller, Grant County 4-H educator.
The chamber’s annual Hometown Christmas will span two days this year, encompassing both Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6. The event will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including shopping events, a soup walk, Lego contest, free Christmas movie, vendor fair, tree lighting ceremony and a visit from Santa.
One of the most notable changes for this year is the addition of a Winter Wonderland drive-through display of Christmas lights. The display will be at the Grant County 4-H grounds, and it will replace the standstill lighted parade that has been on Main Street during the Hometown Christmas events in recent years.
The new drive-through display is coordinated by the staff of the 4-H office. Organizers invite individuals, businesses, churches and civic organizations to design festive light displays along the 4-H barn “loop,” creating a magical drive-through experience for the whole community.
Visitors can enjoy the dazzling displays from the comfort of their cars, with lights available for viewing from December 6 through January 1. The displays will be lit daily from 5 to 9 p.m.
“The holiday season is a time for celebration and family,” Mueller said. “I remember as a child driving around with my family to look at Christmas lights. This event gives our community – young and old – the chance to enjoy the beauty of holiday lights all in one place, from the warmth of their cars. It’s a wonderful way to spread festive family cheer this season.”
