Children Invited to Decorate a Flower Pot
Area families with children can visit the Grant County Public Library throughout the day on Thursday, February 26, to decorate a flower pot and transplant a starter plant into their pot to take home and nurture.
This fun event celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Jumpstart’s Read for the Record program.
Milbank’s library staff, Friends of the Library organization, and participating library patrons visit school classrooms and local daycares to read this year’s book selection, See Marcus Grow, by Marcus Bridgewater. This picture book introduces young readers to the wonders of gardening while exploring themes of curiosity, discovery, nurturing, and growth. In the story, the young character named Marcus learns how to plant from his grandmother in her garden. The book beautifully illustrates the parallel between plant care and human development, sharing the wisdom that both children and seedlings need water, air, sunshine, and space to grow.
The goal of the Read for the Record program is for participants to read one specific book to as many children as possible in a single day to celebrate early literacy. The hope is to inspire, connect, and empower young children and adults to read all year long.
