Career Fair Ignites Interest for Many Milbank Students
The career fair presented at Milbank High School on Wednesday, February 4, sparked a lot of interest in future employment possibilities for students.
Various careers were explored by students during the sessions. In the gymnasium, local businesses hosted booths where students could visit with professionals and learn more about specific career paths. The Milbank Police Department had a booth and were also one of the many speakers involved in the event. Twin Valley Tire and First Bank and Trust in Milbank also participated.
“It helped me decide what career path I would like to take after high school,” said student Alexis Meyer. “The fair helped me see that I have many different opportunities available in Milbank.”
The students enjoyed one-on-one time with the presenters and business representatives.
“There were 24 speakers in various careers that spoke to our sophomores and juniors,” said Nancy Quade, Milbank business education teacher. “There were three 15 to 20 minute sessions allowed with five to 10 students in each group. After the small group breakouts, the speakers spent time to field additional questions and talk to our senior students.”
“The career fair was helpful. I talked to previous Milbank graduates who now work in the community,” said student Jeryn Bormann. “They were very knowledgeable on scholarships and careers.”
The fair also led students to arrange job shadowing opportunities, explore internship leads, gather scholarship information, and even discover potential job openings.
“The outcome of the career fair helped students learn about opportunities in and around Milbank,” said Quade. “They discovered information about education, training and certifications needed for jobs.”
The fair provided students with an opportunity to explore and begin shaping their individual career paths with the valuable insight and directions presented to them.
