The Big Stone City council met in regular session on Monday, June 1, 2026, meeting began at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Brown presiding. Roll Call: Roscoe, B. Goergen, Stoddard, Redfield, A. Goergen and Hughes. Others present: Kelsey Stock, Nancy Lee, Redgey Rademacher, Bryan Austin, Kris Redfield, Linda Raddatz, Don Raddatz, Molly Gustafson, Rick Gustafson, Kathy Rabe, Gevin Rabe, Alan Adelman, Dewane Stoddard and Ann Grabow.
The Pledge of Allegiance and the South Dakota State Pledge were recited.
Motion to approve the minutes from May 4, 2026 regular meeting was made by Hughes with Roscoe seconded. All in favor. Motion Carried.
Motion to approve the claims was made by Redfield with Hughes seconded. Upon roll call Ayes: Roscoe, B. Goergen, Stoddard, Redfield, A. Goergen and Hughes. Nayes: None. Motion Carried.

Sheriff report for May 2026: Hours worked 108.30. Call for service 37. Activity report included Citizen assist, welfare check, traffic complaints, traffic stops, suspicious activity investigation, burglary alarms, civil issues, motorist assist, unruly subjects, medical call and 911 hangups.
Public Comments: None
Hughes made a motion to approve $1,500.00 for a customer appreciation/dance at the Big Stone Municipal Liquor Store with Roscoe seconded. Upon roll call Ayes: Redfield, B. Goergen, Stoddard, A. Goergen, Roscoe and Hughes. Nayes: None. Motion Carried.
With no public comments for the public hearing B. Goergen made a motion approving the variance for Sue Cantine with Roscoe seconded. All in favor. Motion Carried.
Bid openings took place on the playground equipment and may be viewed at the City office during regular hours.
Redgey Rademacher, Utilities Manager discussed with council the water/wastewater repair on Margaret Street. Stoddard made a motion to move forward with Ronglien Excavating doing the work with Hughes seconded. Upon roll call Ayes: A. Goergen, Roscoe, Hughes, B. Goergen, Stoddard and Redfield. Nayes: None. Motion Carried.
Discussion was held regarding the Internet at the water tower. No action taken at this time.
Hughes made a motion to approve Braxten Brandriet $18.00/hour with A. Goergen seconded. Upon roll call Ayes: Stoddard, B. Goergen, Redfield, Hughes, Roscoe and A. Goergen. Nayes: None. Motion Carried.
Stoddard made a motion to approve $10,000.00 along with the trade in of the old mower for the purchase of a new mower with Hughes seconded. Upon roll call Ayes: Roscoe, A. Goergen, Stoddard, Redfield, B. Goergen and Hughes. Nayes: None. Motion Carried.
City wide cleanup was discussed and it will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Details will be on the Big Stone City news website, KDIO Radio and at the City Office.
Rick Gustafson addressed the council regarding vacating an alley. Kelsey Stock will be following up with the landowners.
Main street flags on the sidewalks were discussed. Kelsey Stock will be following up with this.
Councilmember Hughes left meeting at 6:05 p.m.
Redfield made a motion to approve Grocery Basket LLC License RB 3420 for Retail On-Off Sale Malt Beverage and SD Farm Wine with B. Goergen seconded. All in favor. Motion Carried.
Being no further business to discuss Stoddard made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:17 p.m. with Redfield seconded. All in favor. Motion Carried.
