South Shore to Host 125th Birthday Celebration Event

 

South Shore celebrates 125 years on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 12-14, with activities taking place across the town throughout the weekend.
Festivities kick off on Friday, June 12, at the City Park with a brat feed from 5-7 p.m., music provided by Pastor Ken and crew from 7-9 p.m., and the Punished Woman’s Lake Pageant Presentation, a fundraiser for the Waverly-South Shore junior class featuring concessions, beginning at sunset. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs for the pageant.
The celebration continues on Saturday, June 13, with a gamut of activities for all ages. Events begin with a one-mile walk/run, commencing at 8 a.m. and registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Community Center. The South Shore School building will open at 10 a.m until 8 p.m. for tours, with a reunion lunch served at noon, and ice cream and cookies served in the afternoon. A parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and travel west from Our Savior Lutheran Church parking lot, where lineup and registration will begin at 10 a.m., down Gesley Avenue before turning north on Main Street until reaching Lakeview Avenue. The route will then head west to County Rd 2, traveling south to the church parking lot.
Following the parade, food vendors will set up along Main Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. At noon, activities for all ages, including a petting zoo, inflatables, mechanical bull, obstacle course, face painting, and concessions, will take place at the ball park on the south side of town. Tours to the Mounds will also begin at noon with a minibus picking up those wishing to attend at locations throughout town, with additional tours taking place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Main Street will feature activities from 2 to 4 p.m. including a corn hole tournament and historical scavenger hunt. Dorene Foster will take to the Main Street Stage and provide recognition to veterans starting at 4 p.m. Saturday’s festivities will close with a street dance featuring Urbandale Lane performing from 8 p.m. to midnight.
South Shore’s 125th celebration culminates on Sunday, June 14, with a worship service at Our Savior Lutheran Church beginning at 9 a.m. and a breakfast at the Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon.
Memorabilia will be available for sale at the Community Center and school throughout the celebration.
