Francis Van Sambeek didn’t have the desire to be both married and in the army, but while on his honeymoon with his wife, Theresa, he received a call to report for his physical. He was called up in February of 1954, just a few months before his 25th birthday.
Wilmot native, Joe Sandbakken, was recently honored at a retirement ceremony commemorating 30 years of military service. A 1988 graduate of Wilmot High School, he is the son of Wayne and Faith Sandbakken of Wilmot.
While working as a radio broadcaster, Patricia Johnson’s listeners would call in to discuss their problems. She soon learned she had a “natural gift for gab,” and helped callers work through what was on their minds.
