Francis Van Sambeek didn’t have the desire to be both married and in the army, but while on his honeymoon with his wife, Theresa, he received a call to report for his physical. He was called up in February of 1954, just a few months before his 25th birthday.
Wilmot native, Joe Sandbakken, was recently honored at a retirement ceremony commemorating 30 years of military service. A 1988 graduate of Wilmot High School, he is the son of Wayne and Faith Sandbakken of Wilmot.
While working as a radio broadcaster, Patricia Johnson’s listeners would call in to discuss their problems. She soon learned she had a “natural gift for gab,” and helped callers work through what was on their minds.
“This is my third career,” explained Barbara McKewin, the new pastor at Parkview United Methodist Church in Milbank, Tabor United Methodist in Big Stone City and First United Methodist in Ortonville, MN.
