The Milbank School District’s Board of Education received the welcome news that the district’s valuation was higher than anticipated and will reduce the tax burden of the bond issue for the new elementary school.
The Milbank City Council took action during the regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 14, which resulted in some staffing changes. Among the actions were accepting the resignation of Bryan Lambrechts, who has been a city employee for more than 40 years.
During the regular monthly meeting of the Milbank City Council Monday, October 14, councilman Scott Hoeke, presented an overview of the proposed $7 million Birthplace of American Legion Baseball stadium to be built in the southeast part of Lake Farley Park in Milbank.
A 17-year-old student at Milbank High School was arrested on Tuesday, October 8, and charged with possession of marijuana, according to Boyd VanVooren, Milbank police chief. The student was later released to a parent.
Each legislative session, high school students from across South Dakota have an opportunity to get a firsthand look at the legislative process by serving as pages for the South Dakota legislature. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2020 legislative session.
The Grant County Public Library in Milbank invites the public to attend Those Old Stone Memories, a genealogy workshop, Thursday, October 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. Those Old Stone Memories will be presented by Virginia Hanson from the South Dakota Archives. There is no cost to attend.
